February 2010

Mixtape Madness
Well, it’s not February yet, but download these two mixes/mixtapes. The first is a Mad Decent production – Diplo Presents: Free Gucci Mane. Diplo and co. apply gnarly treatments to the off-color incarcerated rapper’s most recent rhymes. Dirty and dreamy – everything hip-hop should be, but isn’t.

Diplo Presents: Free Gucci Mane (Best of the Cold War Mixtapes)

The second is a mix compiled by Four Tet after a long residency at London’s renowned Plastic People club. The dj/musician/producer has broken into a deeper, more driven, ‘house’ style recently – a shift he attributes to a string of fun, explorative dj dates at places like Plastic People. The mix below is in appreciation of the club’s patrons. It features Four Tet’s stellar new single, “Love Cry,” from his forthcoming full length, due out Jan. 26.

Four Tet - Much Love to the Plastic People (mix)

I may be working against my own cause here, because I am working on a follow-up to the continuous mix I posted in November, and mine will surely fall short of one like Four Tet’s. But I’m still having fun with it so stay tuned for that.
